The World’s Most Iconic Yachting Events

There is simply no better way to experience an event or savour a waterfront city than on a yacht.

Some of the world’s most thrilling events and scenic cities are situated on harbours and rivers that offer visitors unrivalled access to the heart of the action, without the jostling crowds, busy roads, hassles of hotels, or vying for a good view.

Monaco Grand Prix, held annually in late May or early June, is considered the most prestigious event in motor racing. The Circuit is a narrow course around the streets of Monaco and its landmarks, including the Casino, Pool, Hotel Mirabeau and the picturesque Port Hercules, lined with superyachts laden with guests enjoying unimpeded views of the spectacle.

Once the race is run, no battling the crowds to get back to your hotel or lining up for a bar or bistro; everything you could possibly desire is on board. And if you tire of the view, or your companions, set off on your support vessel and explore the Riviera – take a dip at a quiet anchorage or secluded beach on the Île Sainte-Marguerite or book lunch at a private table at Byblos Beach in St Trop’.

For the adventurous, dive or snorkel among the submerged sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor at the Underwater Ecomuseum on the south side of Île Sainte-Marguerite.

F1 in Singapore in September is just as fun! Once again, the track winds through the city and along the waterfront of Marina Bay, giving guests on board the best vantage point of the racing.

Singapore has just added SailGP to its calendar of events, and visiting spectator craft were treated to F50 foiling yachts clocking 100km/hour with the breathtaking backdrop of “Lion City” (Singapore).

SailGP and the America’s Cup, which will be held in Barcelona Spain in 2024, have a sophisticated hospitality program for spectator vessels to moor on the edge of the racecourse so guests don’t miss a moment.

Cannes, probably the most famous festival city, hosts the iconic Cannes Film Festival every May and the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, as well as dozens of other festivals and events throughout the year centred around the Palais des Festivals, located on its tranquil Bay. Thankfully, there are hundreds of marina berths and anchorages along the Riviera, all of them well equipped to cater to the every whim of visiting yachts.

In Australia, Sydney Harbour and its waterways are famous for their pristine bays, teeming with marine life, a smorgasbord of restaurants and cafes, and the extravaganza of New Year’s Eve fireworks.

But that’s not the only event that lights up Sydney. Aboard any one of the country’s luxury charter yachts or your own, witnessing the vibrancy and luminous light scape of the VIVID Festival in Sydney each June is a bucket-list experience.

Since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Australia has been actively wooing international superyachts – privately owned and charter vessels – and facilities have evolved to berth them and provide world-class refit and maintenance services.

Though the Brisbane 2032 Olympics are a decade away, preparations are underway for welcoming the world to Queensland, which will share events around various venues.

Brisbane, known as the River City, the Gold Coast, famous for its beaches, Broadwater and easy access to the east coast cruising and further north, the Whitsunday Islands, and other coastal cities are putting in place a plan for yacht moorings and superyacht anchorages.
